Valhalla
Valhalla
Valhalla is a thrill-seeker’s dream, a fire, water and snow extravaganza which throws riders into a world of vikings and mythical beats. Opened in 2000 at a cost of around £15 million, this is one of the best rides at Blackpool Pleasure Beach in our opinion with amazing special effects and dramatic changes in temperature.
Here we have one of the longest indoor dark rides on the planet and passengers are taken on their journey for an impressive six minutes, longer than any other ride at the park.
To give you some idea of the scale of this ride, around 35,000 cubic feet of gas is used every hour in order to provide the amazing flame effects and approximately 100,000 gallons of water recycled every single minute. The ride is housed in an 80ft tall building and the length of the ride is almost half a mile.
Passengers board a boat (up to eight people in each) and these boats travel in the fashion of a log flume and proceeds through tunnels, under waterfalls, through mist and wind, over rapids and through an ice room where the temperature of -20 degrees is created by large fans. This is a completely immersive experience like no other and is certainly not for the faint-hearted.
This is a ride in which you will get wet, make no mistake! You will be roasted, soaked, frozen, terrified, a whole range of emotions await you at Valhalla.
Our Thrill Verdict
Where do we start? This really is a ride that has it all. The emotions are taken to a whole new level here and even the most hardened thrill-seekers will find themselves screaming as their boat hurtles down rapids, under waterfalls and into dark runners where you don’t know what will happen next.
You WILL get very wet here so wrap up well and be prepared for whatever is thrown at you! If we could give this a Thrill Rating of 6 out of 5 we would, no hesitation. This is our favourite ride by far but be warned, you will get absolutely soaked so best leave this ’til last, you don’t want to be going on any other rides drenched to the skin.
