Ride at Blackpool Pleasure Beach named best in the world
One of the rides at the famous Blackpool Pleasure Beach has scooped no less than three top awards with one giving it the accolade of ‘best ride of its type in the world’.
Opened in 2000 for around £15 million, Valhalla has received the title ‘Best Water Ride in the World 2023’, this being the seventh time it has been handed the prize. This accolade was given at the 2023 Golden Ticket Awards and is a clear reflection of the popularity of the ride which received a £4 million reimagining throughout the winter months, reopening to visitors in April 2023. Valahalla has also been named the wettest rollercoaster in the UK.
Valhalla is one of the most popular rides at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, riders embarking on a journey of half a mile whilst on a viking longboat. Each minute, around 100,000 gallons of water are recycled within the ride and thrill-seekers experience temperatures of between -20 degrees C and 43 degrees C.
Valhalla was also named the Best Water Ride in Europe by the European Star Awards, while the UK Theme Park Awards awarded it the title of Best Water Ride in the UK.
Blackpool Pleasure Beach CEO, Amanda Thompson OBE, said: “It’s not every day a ride takes home three prestigious awards. This is a monumental achievement. These awards are testament to the hard work and dedication of our whole team, who have worked tirelessly to make our new version of Valhalla industry leading.
“Valhalla has well and truly been given the reimagining it deserves, now boasting some exciting new features and impressive sustainability credentials to help ensure the ride is more environmentally friendly – without compromising on the sense of adventure for which it’s been known for many years.
“Valhalla has always been a firm fan favourite, and we are sure it will continue to be a thrill and surprise guests for many years to come.”
