New £30m four-star hotel planned for Blackpool

A major international operator has announced proposals for a new £30 million four-star Blackpool hotel on the Promenade, providing the town with a much-needed boost.

The recently-demolished St Chad’s hotel will be the site of a major new development which will see the construction of a £30 million four star hotel. This development is being planned by Singapore-based Fragrance Group and will consist of a 184 bedroom hotel and associated facilities. This particular hotel group already owns and operates the Lyndene hotel and Imperial hotel in the town and also has hotels across three continents.

Blackpool Council gave permission to demolish the St Chad’s Hotel as well as the regency Apartments, Lyric Hotel and Seaside Fish & Chip Shop alongside the promenade. Demolition was complete by May 2023 and since closure two years ago, the hotel building was used as a training exercise location for Lancashire Fire & Rescue as well as Lancashire Police Service.

Martin Rogers, representing Fragrance Group, said: “Fragrance own hotels across three continents and investing in the tourism industry is core to the business.

“Our acquisitions in Blackpool over recent years show that we are committed to the area, and believe in its long-term potential.

“Because of this we are prepared to invest in high-quality hotel facilities which will improve the resort’s offer, attracting longer-term guests throughout the year and providing more than 40 permanent long-term jobs.

“The old hotel was no longer fit for purpose. It would have been uneconomic to attempt to refurbish it, and it could not have been brought up to the standards today’s guests expect.

“The plans reflect a proposed investment of around £30m which we hope will prove to be a catalyst for a wider improvement of the Promenade and Blackpool’s offer to visitors.

“We are consulting with the hotel’s neighbours and other key stakeholders, and sharing our plans with the public before submitting an application for planning permission to Blackpool Council.”
