Blackpool Central Pier Big Wheel still on course to open next year
As past of a £4 million upgrade, the Big Wheel on Blackpool’s famous Central Pier is in the process of being replaced with a bigger version which will be ready in time for the 2023 tourist season.
Blackpool’s iconic piers are known throughout the world and each has its own distinct character. The North Pier is the most genteel and old fashioned with plenty of room for strolling and taking in the sea air while the South Pier is a big attraction for thrill-seekers with an array of rides and games on offer for all the family. The Central Pier is the real hub of the resort, situated right in the centre of the famous promenade and offering everything a holidaymaker could wish for. The Big Wheel on the Central Pier has been a feature for many years and the current structure is in the process of being dismantled to make way for a bigger and more up-to-date Ferris wheel.
This wheel will be bigger, taller and brighter than the current one and it will feature wheelchair-friendly carriages as well as VIP carriages. It will be open throughout the year and is set to be constructed using ‘state-of-the-art’ technologies.
The new Big Wheel will give passengers unrivalled views across the Irish Sea and it promises to be even more popular than the current ride.
This larger wheel will take approximately 12 months to construct and the aim is to have it open in the summer of 2022. Company bosses believe that the new ride will attract even more visitors and revenue which can then be reinvested into all of Blackpool’s famous piers.
