Fresh calls for passenger flights from Blackpool Airport

Blackpool Airport enjoyed direct links to many UK and European destinations for many years, however with the terminal building long gone, travellers are forced to fly out of Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds/Bradford instead. Could this be about to change?

Blackpool Airport is never going to challenge the likes of Manchester Airport or Liverpool Airport, however many believe that the facility could see a return of passenger flights serving the Isle of Man, Belfast and Dublin in the near future. Indeed, since the airport lost direct services to those destinations, there has been a massive reduction in the number of travellers from those places.

Blackpool Airport is currently one of the busiest in the UK for general and business aviation with excellent facilities and a full-time air traffic control team. Nevertheless, many believe that there is untapped potential and that passenger flights would benefit the local area.

Airport Managing Director Steve Peters unveiled a ten-year action plan for the airport in 2022 and this included expanding the business jet market, promoting specialist charter flights and bringing back domestic passenger services linking the town with several other regional airports in the UK, Isle of Man and Ireland.

At the present time there is no airport terminal to accommodate passengers, however there is sufficient land available around the airport which could be used for such a facility.
