The biggest event in Blackpool’s annual calendar will soon get underway with many thousands expected to turn up for the world-famous Blackpool Illuminations.

 

World famous illuminations

Each year, a huge number of visitors flock to Blackpool to see the illuminations switch-on and 2024 promises to be no different. This event is known around the world and is the start of a months-long light spectacular which lasts right through until January 1st 2025. Sophie Ellis-Bextor performed at the 2023 Illuminations switch-on and the 2024 event will take place on Friday, 30th August in association with Hits Radio.

 

Completely free un-ticketed event

This is a completely free event with no tickets required for entry but many thousands turn up and as such, it is wise that you head along to the Tower Headland nice and early to get the best views. The opening show of the evening will be the Massaoke which will be performed by party band Rockstar Weekend, while there will be giant LED screens provided so no-one will miss out on the action and entertainment.

 

Well-known dance hits

Grammy nominated artist Kimberley Wyatt will join the band on the big stage, the former Pussycat Dolls member performing many well-known dance hits and pop classics.Following this will be the big switch-on event with a major celebrity pulling the trigger to kick off a full four months of illuminations which will stretch along the seafront from Squires Gate to Bispham. The identity of the celebrity is being kept a closely-guarded secret but he or she will be revealed in the next few weeks.
