Blackpool Tower glowing green in support of mental health awareness

The iconic Blackpool Tower is shining bright green as it shows its support for Mental Awareness Week which lasts until 19th May 2024.

Stigma and difficulties

This is the second year in succession that the tower has been shown to support the annual initiative of the Mental Health Foundation which aims to highlight the stigma and difficulties surrounding mental health issues.

Instantly recognisable

Blackpool Tower is one of the most instantly recognisable structures, not just in the UK but around the world, and it is generally the first thing that visitors to Blackpool see on their way to the town. The tower will be lit by green illuminations until 19th May and throughout this week, the Mental Health Foundation will share information, advice and tips on their social media outlets and website.

A Mental Health Foundation spokesman said:

“Since 2001, the Mental Health Foundation has been leading Mental Health Awareness Week – bringing together the UK to focus on getting good mental health.

“Each May, millions of people from every part of society take part. They include people in schools and further education; private, public and charity sectors; families and individuals.

“Your donations help us continue to create this moment where we can all come together to build a society with good mental health where everyone can thrive.”

A tower for many occasions

Blackpool’s famous tower is lit for many occasions and this is down to around 25,000 eco friendly bulbs which can offer a wide range of different colours. It is a perfect backdrop to get a message across, whether t be a deserving charity or even a wedding proposal.
