New restaurant for iconic Blackpool hotel

An iconic hotel situated on the seafront at Blackpool will have its trade significantly boosted by the addition of a new restaurant.

Permission to go ahead

The former Clifton Hotel on Blackpool’s famous promenade has been fighting for permission to create a new restaurant within the building and the council planning department has now given permission for the project to go ahead. The new restaurant will result in major alterations to the building which is located on the corner of Blackpool Promenade and Talbot Square in the centre of town. Now known as the Forshaw Hotel, the Grade II listed structure will see significant changes being made to the ground floor where the restaurant will be situated and approval has been given for the removal of internal walls and the construction of new internal walls to separate key spaces.

Pave the way

This work will pave the way for the planned new restaurant in space which at present stands empty. The Turtle Bay restaurant relocated to another section of the building’s ground floor during the summer of 2023 and the new works are designed to preserve the architectural features of this important building whilst at the same time putting it back into use from its current empty state. The consent includes permission to alter many features of the building such as external doors which will be taken back to their original state as well as a full repair of windows throughout the building and new security features.

The building dates back to the late 19th century and is part of the conservation area in the town centre.
