Blackpool Pride to return this weekend for first time in three years
Blackpool Pride 2022 will light up the town in a rainbow of colours this weekend for the first time in three years. This one-day event will take place on Saturday, 11th June and will be a celebration of all things LGBTQ+ with a colourful parade and a range of live music.
For the past two years, the festival has been celebrated online due to the Covid-19 restrictions, however it will now return to Blackpool Promenade following its enforced absence.
Blackpool has one of the highest LGBTQ+ populations in the North West of England and the scene continues to thrive in the seaside resort with a range of bars, clubs and other notable venues catering for the community such as Funny Girls, Viva, Flamingo’s, Kaos, Ma Kelly’s and Flying Handbag. These venues will be hosting their own celebrations throughout the weekend.
Visitors can also enjoy a free photography exhibition featuring the work of photo-journalist Stuart Linden who has captured many moments from various pride parades and protests in the North of England between 1991 and 1995.
The Blackpool Pride 2022 parade will start at the South Pier at 10.30am and will finish at the North Pier. This year’s theme is ‘Love is Love’. There will be events on Queen Street and Princess Parade on Saturday, while the main Pride Arena will be situated next to the Metropole Hotel on Blackpool Promenade and from here you can enjoy a range of live music.
Topping the bill will be former X factor winner Joe McElderry and there will be many other artistes from throughout the Uk taking part. The event is expected to finish at 11pm.
