We’re almost into 2023 and Blackpool is gearing itself up for another year of record breaking visitor numbers with a thrilling selection of events, shows and attractions for all the family. We take a look at some of the highlights for the year ahead…
1: A new big cat facility will open at Blackpool Zoo in 2023, this state-of-the-art facility designed to give visitors outstanding views of the resident tigers and lions, both inside and outside.
2: 2023 will represent a major milestone for one of Blackpool’s most famous structures, the North Pier set to celebrate its 160th year of operation since opening in 1863. Over 20,000 people turned up to walk along the pier on the year it was opened and visitors today can enjoy a great range of attractions and food/drink outlets along its wooden boardwalk.
3: A new four-star Holiday Inn will open on Talbot Road in 2023, giving visitors to Blackpool a wider choice with regard to accommodation throughout the year.
4: In 2023 a new ‘Showtown Museum’ will open its doors to visitors. This £13 million scheme on the promenade will be showcasing Blackpool’s rich and varied entertainment history.
5: Visitors and residents alike can enjoy one of the UK’s biggest IMAX screens when it opens as part of a multi-cinema development in Blackpool in 2023. This huge screen will be 19.8 metres wide and 10.8 metres high, while it will be the centrepiece of the new cinema under construction in Tower Street as part of the Houndshill Shopping Centre extension.
6: Many world class events will be returning to Blackpool in 2023, most notably the Blackpool Air Show weekend, World Fireworks Championship, Ride The Lights, Rebellion Punk Festival, Pride Festival, Christmas By The Sea, Illuminations Switch-on and much more.
7: A huge and varied line-up of shows will hit the town in 2023 at a multitude of top-quality venues such as Grand Theatre, Winter Gardens and Blackpool Pleasure Beach. A handful of the shows already announced for 2023 include Six The Musical, Mamma Mia!, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, Shrek The Musical, Titanic The Musical, The Mousetrap, Annie, The SpongeBob Musical and dazzling hot ice extravaganza Amore, Amore, Amore.
