First act announced for 2022 Blackpool Illuminations Switch On

The extended 2022 Blackpool Illuminations will start on Friday, September 2nd and the big switch-on will get underway with a show in the Tower Ballroom.

The 2022 Blackpool Illuminations are now just over 11 weeks away and the first act for the big switch-on has just been announced.

Tom Grennan will perform hits including ‘Found What I’ve Been Looking For’ and Little Bit of Love’ at the 2022 Blackpool Illuminations Switch-On which will take place at the famous Tower Ballroom.

This news was confirmed earlier this week and Tom Grennan confirmed on his social media channels that he was to be involved in the event. He said: “I’m excited to announce that I’m performing at this year’s Blackpool Illuminations Switch-On Concert in association with  MTVUK at the legendary Tower Ballroom – I can’t wait to see you all on 2nd September!”

Following the success of last year’s Illuminations, the 2022 event will once again be extended to five months. The lights will be turned on on Friday, 2nd September and remain lit until 2nd January 2023, that’s a mammoth 122 days of spectacular lighting displays along the promenade.

The yearly Blackpool Illuminations switch-on event was forced indoors in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 restrictions, however it proved so successful that it will return to the indoors venue for a third year with a capacity crowd expected at the Tower Ballroom.

The complete list of installations for the Illuminations hasn’t yet been released but if the 2021 event was anything to go by, there will be some creative and spectacular new additions alongside some old favourites.
