Regular visitors to Blackpool might be surprised to learn that there is a hidden village within the town, which even includes an attractive waterfall, rows of pretty cottages, a pub and two churches.
Stunning countryside and a castle
Blackpool is a bustling seaside resort with much to offer both day-trippers and those staying for a few days, however few will realise that a beautiful village lies nestled amongst trees just 30 minutes away from the promenade. Here visitors can find an untouched pocket of stunning countryside and rows of attractive cottages as well as a pub and two old churches. There’s even a waterfall and a castle, the last thing you would associate with Blackpool!
Far too big
There is a catch however. You won’t actually be able to go into the pub, or the church and castle for that matter. You will be far too big and won’t fit through the door! There’s the punchline, for what we are talking about here is Blackpool Model Village and Gardens. Many won’t know about this attraction but it certainly deserves to be high on the list of things to do when in Blackpool.
Free to visit
The model village is situated in a quiet corner of Stanley Park, itself just a 30 minute stroll from the seafront (alternatively just a few minutes on the bus). Those visiting might doubt its very existence until they are virtually right on top of it, however it is well signposted and the best part of all is, it’s very inexpensive to visit!
A windmill and recycling centre
This attraction has been billed as ‘the Biggest Little Village in Lancashire’, however the reality is that it is quite big and includes almost everything that you would expect to find in a typical small British town or village, such as a castle, rows of neat cottages, churches and a pub. There’s even a windmill which you rather expect Windy Miller to be leaning against, while the village is clearly forward thinking and includes a recycling centre.
All ages
This is an attraction aimed at all ages and it is somewhere which would be suitable for children with much to fuel their imaginations. This is a very tranquil spot from which to escape from the crowds along the promenade and it is certainly one of the most delightful attractions in town.
Open each day
Blackpool Model Village and Gardens are located in Stanley Park and there is car parking available. Entry costs £10.50 for adults (between 16 and 59), while children aged between 2 and 15 are priced at £8.50 with concessions priced at £9.50. The attraction is open each day from 28th March right through to 3rd November from 9.30am to 4pm, weather permitting.
