New Blackpool multi-storey car park to open by summer
Visitors arriving to Blackpool by car will soon have a wider choice of car parks from which to choose with a new multi-storey facility set to open in time for the summer season.
Massive new car park for Blackpool town centre
Blackpool has a massive new car park set to open this summer, a seven-storey facility having been constructed in the town centre alongside a site earmarked for a brand new leisure centre development which will include a hotel, restaurants and indoor theme parks. The 1,306 car park opened this week with the first two floors now in use, while the third floor is due to open this coming weekend and others to follow soon after on a phased basis.
Drivers will be able to park for free
Drivers will be able to park for free for up to 15 minutes, perfect for those simply dropping people off in the town centre. For longer stays, the charges are £4.50 for two hours using automatic number plate recognition. The facility will be run by the council and funding for the car park was provided by Nikal, principal developer of the Blackpool Central development.
Further development planned around the site
There will be further development around the site, including the demolition of Blackpool Magistrates Court which has been closed due to crumbling stonework. This, along with the site of the former police station, will be used for future new development, while a replacement courthouse is to be constructed on Devonshire Road.
