Multi-million pound regeneration bringing big changes to Blackpool
Interest in Blackpool is growing as the multi-million pound regeneration project starts to show positive results.
The multi-million pound investment in Blackpool is making noticeable progress with residents and visitors alike set to see large positive changes over the next three years. Some projects have suffered lengthy delays but the £300 million Blackpool Leisure Centre is set to open early in 2024, while the £100 million Civil Service offices are also bang on schedule. These new developments will result in more employment opportunities for residents and they will also attract more interest from potential private investors.
Other projects set to be completed next year include a new multi-storey car park as well as a multi-screen cinema with an Imax screen and a new Holiday Inn. Plans are progressing to develop a four star Indigo Hotel on the site of the former Abingdon Street Post Office, while a £65 million Multiversity is also being developed on a site at George Street, the Levelling Up scheme contributing £40 million towards this.
The Covid pandemic has inevitably caused delays in some projects such as the tramway extension and new Holiday Inn, however most of the planned schemes are very much on schedule.
Blackpool Council growth and prosperity programme director, Nick Gerrard, said: “By 2027 Blackpool will have a lot better facilities in the town centre, but also it will be a lot busier place and that breeds confidence.
“People are wanting to see what is happening in the town and we are getting a lot more people interested in Blackpool.
“2023 has been exciting as we have seen stuff already opening such as the new Abingdon Street Market, while the car park at Blackpool Central will be finished in the next few months.
“The Imax opens next spring and is being fitted out now, and the Civil Service hub is well ahead of schedule.
“Plans and things under consideration are great, but it’s when they open that the economic benefits comes to the people of Blackpool and that is happening now.”
