Blackpool enjoying biggest visitor boom in decades

Holidaymakers are rediscovering the attractions of the UK’s favourite seaside destination with record numbers descending upon Blackpool each week.

Blackpool has been enjoying a surge in visitor numbers and the number of holidaymakers visiting the seaside town is set to break records. Indeed tourism chiefs and civic leaders are proclaiming that this will be Blackpool’s largest tourist boom in decades and the increase in football along the seafront is clear for all to see.

The 2021 summer season saw by far the largest footfall recovery anywhere in the UK with an estimated increase of over 120% when compared to the pre-pandemic average. Many assumed that this was a one-off given that many restrictions still applied to international travel but this was followed by a hugely successful winter season, this generally being by far the quietest time of the year.

Indeed the number of visitors between September and December was massive with the total footfall on the promenade for these three months being estimated at 17 million, over 70% higher than 2019 and the largest number ever recorded. This boom continued into the new year with an astonishing 5.1 visitors being recorded in January and February, a huge increase on the 3.6 million in the same two months in 2020.

Blackpool is now gearing up for its busiest summer season in decades and holidaymakers will rediscover a huge range of family attractions and events, all at excellent value. Hotels are plentiful and inexpensive compared to the rest of the UK, however many are filling up fast so book now and avoid disappointment.
