Sky’s Landscape Artist of the Year comes to Blackpool
The cameras have been rolling near Blackpool’s North Pier this week as contestants get themselves ready with their canvases in the latest series of the ever popular Sky Arts programme ‘Landscape Artist of the Year’.
Camera crews have been busy setting up their positions along the Promenade near to North Pier this week and there have been eight separate pods set up to face the Irish Sea. These pods will be used by the artists and they will each be given four hours to paint a landscape impressive enough to woo the judges.
The Blackpool episode is just one programme in the series and it will be aired on Sky Arts later in 2022.
A total of eight contestants will compete in the Blackpool event and six of these will be handed a semi-final place. At this point, three will then go through to the last round of the competition and the overall winner will receive a commission for a major UK institution worth £10,000 PLUS £500 worth or art materials.
Various presenters have hosted the show in the past including Joan Bakewell and comedian Stephen Mangan. They are usually shown mixing with the artists and discussing their paintings. The pair will be present in Blackpool during firming for the rest of the week.
Blackpool seafront is a perfect backdrop for Landscape Artist of the Year and we look forward to seeing the artists’ work.
