Big Demand

Hotels accommodation in Blackpool is always in big demand throughout the summer months and the announcement that a new hotel expected to operate under the ‘Marriott’ brand is to be constructed in the town centre has been welcomed by tourism chiefs. Outline planning permission had been granted for a 160-bedroom hotel close to the Winter Gardens, however the plans have recently been revised to allow for an additional 106 bedrooms in the five-storey development. These revised plans have been submitted to the council.

Marriott Brand

The land earmarked for the hotel development is currently used as a car park and is situated next to the Winter Gardens between Leopold Grove, Adelaide Street and Alfred Street. Permission is being sought for a five-storey development with 266 rooms and incorporating a car parking facility, while it is understood that the proposed new hotel will operate under the Marriott brand.

Additional Bedrooms

With an outline application having already been submitted to the council, this current application is a variation rather than a brand new one. The proposal is quite simply a reconfiguration of the original scheme and will include additional bedrooms in what could be a dual-branded hotel development, along with access and landscaping works.

First-floor Gym

The principal entrances to the hotel would be situated on Leopold Grove and Adelaide Street. The ground floor of the proposed development will include a drive-through drop off point as well as a gym while the bedrooms will be located on the first to fourth floors.

Blackpool Council purchased the site in 2022 and it has been put onto the market with a price tag of £3m.
