New development at Blackpool Airport given green light.
News that sixteen new business units are to be constructed on a brown field site at Blackpool Airport has been welcomed by business leaders in the town.
Town planners have given the green light to the construction of sixteen business units which will be built on a disused runway at Blackpool Airport, these units consisting of three-storey buildings which will accommodate light industry in the Blackpool Airport Enterprise Zone. The site to be used includes a section of disused overgrown runway and a length of taxiway which was previously used to connect with the main runway at the airport. The development will in no way impact upon any future plans for Blackpool Airport which many consider would be a useful alternative to the likes of Manchester and Liverpool for passenger flights.
The development would also include 61 car parking spaces as well as landscaping which would improve an area currently victim to constant fly-tipping. As part of the planning process, Blackpool Airport was consulted about the development and they had no objections provided that any street lighting associated with the scheme didn’t dazzle aircraft manoeuvring on the airport or landing at the facility.
This new development will being more financial investment into Blackpool and the surrounding area as well as creating more employment locally both in the construction of the scheme and in the operational phases.
