Boost for Blackpool Pleasure Beach as new £6m theme park ride planned

Blackpool Pleasure Beach is one of the biggest and most popular theme parks in the country and pleasure-seekers will be excited by the news that the venue will soon be home to a brand new ride.

Brand new ride

Blackpool Pleasure Beach has been welcoming thrill-seekers for almost 130 years and is home to many world-class attractions such as the Grand National, Valhalla and Big One, however the venue will soon get a brand new ride in the form of a Gyro Swing.

Complete weightlessness

The planned Gyro Swing will be a welcome addition to the park’s long list of exciting rides and it consists of a circular spinning pendant swinging from side to side. This ride can take up to 40 passengers at a time and the swing angle reaches 120 degrees. This is allegedly the most powerful drive system around and passengers will experience complete weightlessness when at the top.

Only one other in UK

At the moment, the UK has one other Gyro Swing, the Maelstrom at Drayton Manor but others can be found in other countries such as Lotte World in South Korea and Liseberg in Sweden. As yet it isn’t known when Blackpool’s Gyro Swing will open to passengers or whereabouts in the Pleasure Beach it will be located.

One of world’s oldest rides

Blackpool Pleasure Beach opened for business in 1896 and the park is home to some excellent attractions, including one of the oldest rides in the world – Sir Hiram Maxim’s Captive Flying Machine – which first carried passengers in August 1904 and continues to do so to this very day.
