Blackpool’s Showtime museum to open this week

Stan Laurel’s hat

Would you like to see Stan Laurel’s hat? What about Tommy Cooper’s best tricks or Peter Kay’s suits? If so, why not pop along to Blackpool’s fabulous £13m Showtime museum. The best news of all… it’s completely FREE for locals!!!

Brand new attraction

The idea for this museum came about a decade ago and the brand new attraction will open its doors to the public for the very first time tomorrow (Friday, 15th March 2024). Showtime is situated inside the Sands building right on the promenade, close to the iconic Blackpool Tower and it is the only UK museum dedicated purely to entertainment, circus and dancing.

Free admission

Blackpool residents can enjoy free admission to the attraction, while everyone can walk through a total of six different galleries which showcase different aspects of entertainment in Blackpool, namely Shows, Dance, Illuminations, Circus, Magic and Seaside. The V&A Museum in London has agreed to lend Showtime items such as Stan Laurel’s hat, sparkling clown costumes and a spanner which was used in the building of Blackpool Tower.

Old Palace nightclub

The new museum will give children an opportunity to design their very own illumination displays, while those of an older vintage might be interested in the dance section which occupies the site of the Palace Nightclub.

Tickets include admission for a year

This excellent museum illustrates the depth of history which Blackpool can boast, from pioneering mass tourism to introducing electric street lighting. Indeed, this new attraction is certain to prove a hit with both residents and visitors alike and the ticket prices (£15 for adults and £11.50 for children) include admission for the whole year.
