Blackpool visitor numbers soar to 20 Million a year

Newly released tourism data shows that Blackpool attracts 20 million visitors each year and that number is expected to grow in the years ahead.

Family-friendly events

A host of family-friendly events throughout the year has helped boost visitor numbers at Blackpool and fresh data shows that upwards of 20 million tourists visit the popular seaside resort annually. This comes as the town adopts a fresh approach which focuses on collaboration and partnership between the big names in the resort such as Merlin and the ever-popular Pleasure Beach, designed to help drive Blackpool forward. Businesses of all sizes are working together and using their expertise to help promote the town and many of the key players in this program include businesses which have traded in and around the town for many generations, as well as the many hoteliers who have high occupancy rates throughout the year, even in the winter months.

Year-round resort

Events such as Christmas by the Sea and the World Fireworks Championship have helped attract tourists in the winter months, a time when the town tends to be quieter than the height of summer. Indeed, far from being a seasonal seaside destination, Blackpool has managed to reinvent itself as a year-round resort with must to offer families of all ages throughout the summer and winter months.

2024 events

Plans in place for 2024 include promoting the town as UK Capital of Dance throughout June and July, while the World Fireworks Championship will return later in the year alongside the famous Blackpool Illuminations, the latter set to be extended once again to run until the start of January 2025.
