Blackpool Tramway extension launch date announced
Blackpool tramway is close to having a new extension completed and passengers will soon be taking their seats on the £23.42 million line.
First tram extension in over 100 years
On 12th June, 2024, the very first passenger tram will ply its trade from the tram depot at Starr Gate to the brand new terminus station next to Blackpool North railway station. This is the first tram extension in the town in over 100 years and it is part of a massive investment programme aimed at improving the infrastructure in and around Blackpool.
Win a seat on the first tram
To celebrate this momentous occasion, residents in the Fylde area have been given the opportunity to enter a prize draw and potentially win a seat on the very first tram to operate on the new route. This tram will be the first to operate along Talbot Road in over 60 years and it marks the start of a new era for the town. The new tramway extension will be in full operation ahead of what promises to be another bumper holiday season for Blackpool and it reconnects the promenade with the main railway station in town.
Special tram tours
The winners of the draw will receive free refreshments at the Starr Gate depot at Squires Gate, a return trip on the new tram from the depot to the new terminus at Blackpool North railway station, a celebratory lunch at Marco’s Italian restaurant and a goody bag which will contain commemorative gifts for the special event. The draw comes to an end on 15th May, 2024 at 5pm and winners will be contacted on 16th May. The new tramway will open for business on 16th June, 2024 and there will be special tram tours on 13th June, 14th June and 15th June with limited tickets available.
