Blackpool ghost train is world’s most haunted

Opened in 1930 and fast approaching 100 years old, Blackpool’s famous ghost train is the oldest in the world and it has also been described as the most haunted ghost train mon the planet.

Haunted ghost train

Blackpool’s ghost train has been a favourite amongst thrill-seekers for almost 100 years and it is famous for being the first ghost train ride in the world, having been opened in 1930. Not only that, the ride is reputedly the most haunted ghost train in the world and is said to be visited regularly by the spirit of an original operator, a man with the nickname ‘Cloggy’ in reference to his preferred choice of footwear.

Hollywood director

Following his death over 2 decades ago, visitors to the ghost train reported being grabbed or touched by a presence which was unseen, while staff at the attraction still sometimes claim to hear groaning, scratching, tapping and sometimes the sound of clogs. Word of these strange goings-on reached the ears of Hollywood director Tim Burton and whilst looking for inspiration for his new film ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’, he requested a private tour of the ride for inspiration for the 2024 movie.

Other sightings

The ghost train isn’t the only part of Blackpool Pleasure Beach with a reputation for hauntings or strange goings-on. The oldest ride in the park and one of the oldest fairground rides in the world, Sir Hiram Maxim’s Captive Flying Machines, is apparently haunted by the spirit of a young girl who lingers around in the gift shop. Other sightings at the Pleasure Beach include a man hanging and a blood-soaked woman.

Scare zones

The Ghost Train remains a very popular attraction at the Pleasure Beach and it will feature as one of the ‘scare zones’ at the ‘Journey to Hell’ events for Halloween later this month.
