Johnny Vegas the voice of Blackpool in new £1.3m marketing campaign
Blackpool is gearing itself up for a record breaking 2022 summer season and the resort has launched its largest ever marketing campaign ‘Only in Blackpool’ which is being spearheaded by spokesbird Nigel C Gull.
Blackpool Council, Merlin Entertainments, Blackpool Tourism Business Improvement District and several other partners have come together in a £1.3 million partnership and the advertising campaign will feature seagull Nigel who has been voiced by comedian Johnny Vegas. He will bring to life the Lancashire resort’s unique character and charm whilst reaffirming its undoubted status as the Number One seaside destination in the UK.
The new adverts featuring Nigel C Gull will be airing across TV channels, social media, video on-demand and radio, the main character – a no-nonsense straight-talking embodiment of Blackpool – travels around local attractions such as Blackpool Pleasure Beach, SEA LIFE Blackpool, Blackpool Tower and Madame Tussauds with the catchphrase “Think you know Blackpool? Well think again”.
With Blackpool looking forward to a record-breaking summer season in terms of overall visitor numbers, this latest advertising campaign is aimed at attracting the many holidaymakers who have rediscovered the benefits of taking their breaks closer to home due to the travel restrictions of 2020 and 2021.
Merlin Entertainments Blackpool regional director, Kate Shane’ said: “We are thrilled to launch Only in Blackpool, the largest marketing campaign the resort has ever seen, and introduce the world to our ‘spokesbird’, Nigel C Gull.
“This campaign has been a collaboration of some truly creative minds including award-winning Andy Heath and Johnny with the unmistakable voice.
“Merlin is hugely committed to Blackpool – we recently opened Peter Rabbit: Explore and Play and will soon launch another new family-focused attraction to complement our seven other long-standing attractions, including Blackpool Tower, Madame Tussauds and SEA LIFE.
“We can’t wait for our guests to experience all we have to offer this summer – as Nigel would say, there is plenty to squawk about in Blackpool!”
The new marketing campaign will continue until 24th July 2022.
